Truck temporarily downshifts
Whenever im driving between 35-45 mph and i go down a small slope my truck will temporarily downshift for about a second and then go back to normal. Ive been trying to find out a pattern for when this happens but there isnt one, it just does it randomly. Sometimes once a week, sometimes twice a day. Is this normal? Has anyone else had the same issue?
My truck is a 2008 lariat 5.4l 4x4 with 25,000 miles on it, just incase its helpful.

Mine has done that on occasion too, very subtle and very random...just like yours. Think it's just the stock tuning with the tranny that is the culprit. Will be upgrading sometime soon to a good tunable programmer for my truck. I have a CAI and magnaflow dual exhaust...does yours have any mods to the drivetrain? By the way, mine did that before and after the new "transmission" that ford replaced on my 07 Lariat 4x4 SCREW.

that's totally normal. That's about the speed that the truck gets "indecisive" about being in 3rd gear or overdrive. Mine does it too. I usually turn off the overdrive in areas where I don't exceed 40MPH. It eliminated the gear-hunting.

Not to scare you guys but....My trans on my 05 did that for about 3 months. Than one day driving to work I got off the highway and lost 1st and 2nd and reverse. I had 92,000 miles on it and had done the recommended flush by the dealer around 36,000. After I put a new trans in it was good for about a month and the problem magically reappeared. I was told it could be a bad coil causing the engine to miss but it was very consistent at 40mph, the trans just seemed confused. I didn't want to deal with it anymore so I traded the pig in and got an 09.

There's nothing to disagree about... it's how overdrive works.

Not very knowledgeable on trannys but a friend had a similar problem on his chevy. After several months and numerous dealerships a local mechanic said it was the fuel filter. It was a little dirty and the computer would automatically downshift the truck due to a lack of fuel. After changing the filter the problem was gone. Might be worth a shot.
