Truck stuck in park!!
2005 ford f150 crew cab. Went to leave the bank today and couldn't get the truck to shift into drive. Seat there for about 20 minutes until I found out how to bypass the system. Anybody had this problem going on and what have you done to fix the problem?

I had to replace the shift cable. Mine melted on the exhaust manifold. Until the cable showed up, I had to crawl under the truck and put it into park. I lucked out that it would go through the gears one way, but it wouldn't pull the linkage back to park or reverse.
If.i remember correctly, it was $50 from the dealer for a new cable.

Most likely the shift lock solenoid has failed. Do you have a column shift or center console? I have an FX4 with console shift and have always wondered where the bypass button was. I'll have to look that up.

This just happened to me about a month ago with my console shifter. I was able to get it freed by manually working the brake switch, it's a black oblong object with 4 wires, two on each end. Try rotating the the switch and you may hear the lock releasing.

My brake position sensor went out a few months back, Couldnt get it in gear without slamming the brake pedal. If you push the brake do your brake lights light up, or does it have to go a good ways for it to work? Soon as you touch it you should hear a click from the center console. Also the bypass for if the shifter is messing up and not unlocking is under the cover. Open center console, Pull on the cup holders and it should release, theres a black square next to the shifter with a white button.

I have found the release on got the truck back home. That box is a little high. I just put a zip tie around it to keep it in the down position that works. Really don't to leave it that away. After a couple days i cut the zip tie off just to see if it would do it again. worked a couple times and then back to stuck in drive. the part #7L3Z7E096A - ACTUATOR ASY $198.48 here at local dealer. you guys think that is the problem?
