Don't continue to drive if it keeps flashing because the unburned fuel (assuming it's not a failed closed or disconnected injector) will damage the cat eventually. A failed open injector can cause a worse misfire because too much fuel gets in the cylinder. That will very quickly destroy a cat and could hydrolock the cylinder, bending rods and requiring a new engine. If the misfire is repeated enough, it will set a hard code and your CEL will light and stay on until the problem is no longer detected for a specific number of cycles or until the code is reset.

A spark or coil that is weak will show up most at full throttle/high torque situations. Cylinder pressures in these conditions are higher, and so it's more difficult to light off the spark. It makes sense then that it's a coil or plug or both that are on the way out, given the conditions that you noticed the problem and your mileage.
Well, i greatly appreciate the feedback. I am seeing about getting the spark plugs changed this week. Unfortunately, I am not mechanically inclined enough to do spark change, especially if they start breaking. I just got off the phone with local Ford dealership and I got quoted $497 for plugs and boots, $52 for first broken plug and $25 for every other broke plug after. Does this sound reasonable or should i call local shops as well? Thanks

Guess what my truck just started this bull monday night. I have done all timing components recently and it was running so good!! I changed my plugs 2k ago.
7 of my cops are oem originals with 180k on them, so i am going to start there. Ill let you know what i find.... I am not showing any codes at this point which is wierd for how much it shakes and how rough it runs.

I had bad shaking a few weeks ago. It ended up being a coil and plugs. I swapped them all out and new coil and its back to normal.

Have seen a couple videos of people impacting them out on a warm engine with the result being none broken. That's what I'm going to try this summer when I fix my cam phasers and timing chain tensioners. I have a misfire just off idle when starting from a dead stop until the engine is completely warmed up. No flashing or steady CEL for me (yet). I've got 70K on it, probably original sparks and coils. It starts easy and once warmed up runs normal.

Found my issue for shaking truck. Its hard to believe but turned out to be a bad motorcraft plug. 2k miles on them max. Wierd. I also changed the cop on that cylinder as well to be safe. Runs good again

what COP's are the best for the money? I was looking online and there are quite a few different brands along with motorcraft. Accel, Masterpro, BWD, RPT, Delphi. Ranging from 35.99 to 70.99 a piece!

Visteon is the same as Motorcraft. I'd go with them as they are cheaper and exactly the same.
