I know what it has but the gauges in our trucks are simply idiot lights. They do not measure temp and accurately DISPLAY it on the cluster. The computer gets an accurate temp to adjust the parameters it needs to for the proper running of the vehicle. I am not saying it will cause damage but you really should not be relying on the dash cluster to give you an accurate measurement of coolant temp, oil pressure, volts etc. This is why I asked where you are getting your temps from. A tool like an edge or the like is the best way (short of datalog) to accurately measure what your truck is doing while in operation.

As far as proper running, like I've said, I have had no issues running it so far. My gas mileage has not gone in the "dumpster" either. I'm looking at getting a Gryphon tuner soon as well. Maybe that will put this thread to rest

I called my local Ford parts rep and he said there was absolutely no issue running that 180 here in west texas. I also reached out to Ford Tech Makuloco and he responded with: "In general where you are at the temps inside the engine will still be fine." So in my honest opinion, there is nothing catastrophic about running a 180 in MY climate and elevation. I understand about the "Ford engineers" throwing a butt load of money to make a truck run well, but it took these same engineers 4 years to correct a spark plug problem. All I'm saying is that these trucks aren't 100% perfect from the factory and a little messing around most likely will have negligible results. But please, continue to tell me how this t stat is destroying my truck...

By then, I'll have a data logger, such as a Gryphon. If need be, yes, I will. All depends if it has issues with the open/closed loop transition. But for now, no need to change anything. We're in for a long, hot summer.
