Default Truck overheating in traffic

Yesterday I was stuck in traffic for about 2 hours. At one point, I moved maybe 200 feet in about 45 minutes. High was around 93*, but the truck's temp gauge was slowly creeping up as I sat longer, up to a max of 106*. AC was on. I looked at the temp gauge and it was creeping above the mid way point. I pulled the truck over and let it sit for about 15. After this, the temp stayed normal (just below the mid line on the gauge). The main fan attached to the motor was on for a while after I restarted my trip and turned off after a few miles. Anything I need to be concerned about? Can I just say this is normal for the condition the truck was sitting in?

Thanks!

Running the AC while sitting still on a hot day can put some stress on an engine but you might see if the thermostat is working properly. Ever happened before? 5.4 Im guessing if you have the KR?

Any damage that could have been done with the temp creeping up slightly? I shut the truck down shortly after I saw it cross the mid way point. < me being paranoid lol

I think it's just a little paranoia. A slight creep in those conditions seems perfectly normal. You can still check some stuff out if you want

I know the coolant needs to be changed, since it's the original from 08. I might as well do the thermostat while I'm at it. Unfortunately the heat here will continue for a bit...

The coolant is probably past it's use service life. 8 years on factory coolant is a long time. I would flush it, change it and while you are there look to see if you have any components that are going bad. Like a water pump that is weeping, or thermostat that is faulty.

Unless the gauge went into the red and you ran it there for a good long time, there is not need to worry about damage.

Thanks!
Are you running an electric fan mod? With my 08's electro-mechanical fan, I don't think I can tell if it's engaged or not. It's always spinning. This could be a point of education for me. How do you know when it's 'on' or 'off'? Maybe mine is pooched.
