I'd find out how much you can get the part for first. Plus intake gaskets if they aren't reuseable. Then I'd call the family shops to see if they get a price break for the parts.

I've been reading your story and patiently waiting to find out the result and the thread just ended. It's definitely a suspense thriller for a truck guy! Did you ever figure out the problem and if so what was it?
