Default Truck hesitates

I own an 05 f150 with a 5.4 triton, I love the truck but it hesitates when under power between 3200-4000 rpm and will sometimes throws a code, the code is p0174 which is a too lean code but runs fine if I can get it to downshift past 4000 rpm and won't throw the code and the check engine light only flashes for a little bit before turning off. Any thoughts or advice?

Check your coil over plugs (COPs), get at this quick so that you dont dump raw fuel into your cats and damage them. Normally a hesitation is a bad COP. Have the spark plugs been changed, how many miles on the truck or plugs if they have been changed and what kind of plugs were used? Which engine do you have?

Has 5.4l triton not sure about plugs wires or coils I keep askin cause I bought it not long ago, I was planning to replace them all anyways, almost afraid to cause of the problem with breaking plugs it have 195000 miles. Also has a code for ice blockage which looked and said ice build up on Pcv which was a reason for both lights being thrown

I would probably start with COP boots and new springs (about $6 bucks apiece) and see if that helps the hesitation. Lot of times, its just the boots. If you dont have any kind of maintenance history on the engine, I would really think about doing the plugs soon. As far as the ice blockage, I got nothing for that one.

A flashing CEL is a classic sign of an engine mis-fire which is caused by bad plugs...COP’s or clogged fuel injector’s...with 200K mile on the engine I would assume somebody had changed the plugs at 100K...so it would be over due for plugs and new COP’s at the least
