Truck cap generation compatibility

Just bought an 07 with the 8ft bed and I'm looking at caps. How cross-compatible are they? Will my 07 (gen 04-08) take caps from earlier or later generations?

Physically I'm sure they would "fit" and keep your bed covered. Visually, I don't think they would look too good. Cab height, contour around back of cab, etc.
