Default Truck burning oil

So my truck seems to be burning oil. I dont see any leaks anywhere but I had to top up my oil before my oil change. I've never had a oil burner in any of my trucks before. What could be the issue? or is it just the way it is?

lot of variables, what kind of oil are you using and how long between oil changes, and how much do you put in when its changed? do you fill it up to capacity (6 quarts) or go till it shows full on the dipstick?

it was 5w30 oil I believe, filled to the top mark on the dipstick. This was about 2500km (1600 miles) ago. Its pretty much dead center of the marks on the dip stick now. Whats causing it to burn? or should I just not worry about it, and check/top it up every now and then?

well the truck calls for 5w-20, and dipsticks arent always true... when you first put the oil in you dont have any in your filter or pumped up into the engine as you drain it all out. your best thing to do is fill the truck to capacity aka put six quarts in it. i get the 5 quart motorcraft and a quart bottle from wally world and just pour it in, and then see where it is on your dipstick, and if its in the safe area i wouldnt even bother when its below the safe area on the dipstick of course i would add some oil, and make sure to use quality oil. i can do a oil change with all motorcraft components for 20 bucks so it makes me wonder why people would go with anything else. the motorcraft is semi synthetic so i go 5,000 miles between changes and the oil still looks good when i drain it out

the 5.4 3v does take 7 quarts.

also, try cleaning or replacing your pcv valve.
they get stuck and are most likely the cause of any newer modular burning oil.
