I was told by a store manager at walmart that their super tech brand is actually made by " havoline" I have used it for years and and dont find it to be any better or worse than any other leading name brand, just cheaper in price..Whether ST is made by QS, Warren, or Penzoil, so what...show me credible data that would convince me using ST would jeopardize my engines life. You can't. You can only express your opinion as to why you feel ST is junk and the brand you are using is the greatest liquid since spring water was invented. The same applies to ST oil filters. The know-it-alls are convinced the more $ you spend on oil/filters equates to higher quality and anything sold at Wal-Mart is junk. I'll do myself a favor and do more research on lubricants. I recommend you know-it-alls do yourselves a favor and take a course in Marketing strategies. Price does NOT equate to quality and the ST name on the box does not mean Wal-Mart made the product. In the meantime, I'll continue using ST oil/filters until someone can convince me I'm torturing my engine :-)

Super-Tech is manufactured by Warren Performance Packaging (Omaha, NE), ExxonMobil and Shell. Since Wal-Mart wants rock bottom pricing. Wal-Mart sources products from regional blend plants. This helps Wal-Mart reduce the amount of freight costs.

There is no difference between Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline, Pennzoil or SuperTech. If the product is an API SM/GF-4 rated Motor Oil its the same

There is a thing called American Petroleum Institute ratings that motor oils pass. If an motor oil gets the API certification it has passed testing. In addition to API testing. Most automobile manufactures have testing certifications that are equal or more difficult to obtain. Since Supertech and other brand name oils meet these certifications they do not cause sludge. If someone comments that after 2,000 miles such and such oil caused this. They are full of crap. All of these brand name oil's perform pretty much the same in 99 percent of passenger car engines when the proper maintenance is performed on the cars. There are many resources that will help you find out about this on the web just google

All oils get sludged over time...just to varying degrees.

When I was a kid in school, a 66 was passing. I always preferred getting A's though.

If the Wal-Mart brand is made by the "big" oil companies, then there should be no difference in quality of oil. It is like when department stores, like Sears, had their own brand of televisions, refrigerators, etc. Those items were made by RCA, Magnavox, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, etc. They just put a "Sears" badge on them. Same quality, different name.

Absolutely right. The problem with that theory tho is that not all the brands used by Sears as Sears products were of the same quality. I just went through all that when buying a fridge from Sears last year. They have different levels of quality from different manufacturers at different price points.

There is more than the API rating that manufactures use. VW for instance requires a hp500 rating. This has nothing to do with the API rating. Its your truck your run what you want. I hope you never have a problem. I will continue to spend the extra few dollars and enjoy my truck for years to come.

each oil company has diffrent goals, weither its price or what, however the cheaper stuff may or may not have the same thermal breakdown points, foreign particles in it, sludge, longevity, and other qualities that mobil 1 (what the truck gets) and Q (what i have run in all my cars besides mobil one)

i will buy what i know works....

and by the way the capacity for our trucks is 6 qts, on the 4.6 that is
