ive heard of that needing to be cleaned/ repaired/replaced.
could the FPDM respond correctly for hasty accelerations only?

Replaced my FPDM winter of 2014 after it rotted out and failed and had issues summer of 2015. It has happened to me after a very dry hot summer, I don't think moisture has anything to do with it.

It controls the fuel pump, so yes. Its easy to inspect it. Drop the spare, unplug the FPDM and then unbolt it and look at the aluminum casing that is touching the steel cross member. If its corroded and getting wet, thats not a good recipe.

I removed the FPDM, it was definitely corroding, in no time there would have been a hole in the bottom. alas an ear broke during removal and it had to be replaced. there went $100. at least the new module came with grommets to lift it off the steel surface. it though was not the culprit to my trucks bucking problem.

while at the parts store a clerk spoke of the same issues with their explorer. said even though the plugs were a recent replacement, once they upgraded to the SP515s (another $110) the issue went away. today I will begin the arduous task of checking/replacing them again. I hate to think there may also be a COP gone bad already ($45 a pop).

new plugs seems to have corrected the issue. at least this time none of them broke during removal.

I hope this cures the issue for you as it has not for me, I do not have new COP's though. I personally don't think that this part of the ignition system is the culprit if it is at all. Maybe fuel or internal engine issues as mine happens when I come to a stop after pulling a heavy load. Any other time mine runs top notch.
