Default transmission trouble??

Ok. I just have a question and Im sure someone out here will know. I have a 2004 f150 4x4. I was in a wreck in and ice storm and trashed out the whole right side of my truck. $6000 worth of body work, bumpers doors etc. As soon as I got my truck back, the very day I was driving it back home, the transmission started making some weird noise. When in overdrive at highway speed, when you press the gas to accelerate there is a loud, thumping noise that comes from the rear end. I took it to a reputable transmission person and he says it is not likely to be from the wreck, but stranger things have happened. He says the torque converter is "shuddering" on itself. I know the insurance person is going to fight this, but I dont believe in that much of a coincdence. It seems to me that a truck traveling at 55mph and then slides sideways into a guard rail should have some damage other that body work. Anyone hear of this or have any ideas???? All help would be very much appreciated.

Doesn't sounds like a coincedence to me!
