This was happening to me 10 days ago. Hard shifting/slipping and a little grinding. Need a new transmission for $2,800. Picked it up yesterday and has been driving amazing knock on wood.

Still having the same problem for the last 50,000 miles. No solution found, I can't believe I'm the only one with this issue. And I certainly hope people arnt just replacing their transmission.

You aren't the only one,

ever resolve this? or is it still going?

I just picked up a new truck and its slipping and banging 1st gear if i leave it in "D" but is fine in "1".
Actually I've narrowed the problem down... it ONLY happens after the truck has been brought up and soaked at operating temperature, then allowed to sit. Only then will it "slip" out of 1st... when i shift out of park into "D", i can actually roll forward. Then the slightest amount of accelerator applied will send the RPMs flying as if i was in neutral, and if i give it enough gas it will slam back into first.
This is all remedied as long as I manually shift "1" then "2" then "D" after sitting, then I can continue to drive as if nothing ever happened. Until the truck sits for long enough again.... hasn't happened at a stop light yet. But if I sit long enough for a phone call or sandwich, I will be manually shifting.
