First time sharing. My truck did this for quite awhile before I figured out it wasn't my transmission. Transmission was acting up like everyone has said. Even worse, so I changed the plugs for a start. 7 out of 8 broke in half. 8 hours to change the plugs and replace number 5 and 7 COP's with boots and springs. (88,000 5.4 - 3 valve 2006) Miraculously, I don't need a new transmission as it hasn't even slipped one time or whatever you want to call it since. My problem now is I can't get the misfire out of number 5 and have absolutely no power. Barely can get up hill. I hope to figure it out eventually and only because of what you all share on this site can I do it. Thanks. I pick up the injectors for that side tomorrow. I'll let you know how I make out. It's amazing how the misfire can make you believe you need a new transmission.

I had the same problem with my 07 f150, at about 60k. Took it to the dealership, payed $90 dollars for a diagnostic test and they told me it was the torque converter and valve body, estimated $1800 to fix. Took the truck to this guy who owns a transmission shop, been in business for 30 years, gave me a bottle of Dr. Tranny's instant shudder fix. Put that in my truck, 20 miles later the shudder was gone. Since then ive put on about 1500 miles and still no shudder. It's about $6 for a bottle of it, its worth a try before you start putting money elsewhere.

I've just had this happen to mine. '08 Supercrew 5.4L with 62,000 miles, I've been running the edge programmer on setting #2, no adjustments. I'll update when I get through the short list of ideas listed.

I just got an edge yesterday. I've got it set to canned tune #2. The shudder/howling noise just showed up in 2nd 3rd and 4th gears. I played with the TCC settings and set The torque converter to lock up in 4th at around 80km/h rather than simultaneously with the 3-4 shift. It appears to have taken care of the problem in 4th gear.
I've heard tell of guys frying their torque converters with the edge programmer...
It seems like lockup occurs too soon with the canned tunes!
I think it's important to make the distinction between the misfire shudder caused by ignition problems which I recently experienced, and this trans issue. The ignition shudder is very pronounced and typically under high load & low engine speed like 4th gear with lockup at like 40-50mph. The torque converter shudder will occur in any gear under light to moderate acceleration.

Im having the same problem as describe by the original poster. 06 F150 84k miles 6" lift on 35s. When going down the highway getting into traffic slowing down to about 40-50 mph at about 1100 RPM the tranni goes back into OD and i give it a little gas and its like a Thud almost like hitting a bump. If i floor it it turns into a raped ape pulls hard no tranni slip at all. Called my local service writer that a deal with and he told me probably throttle body. Put a new throttle body in today same problem it didnt go away. This problem only happens at 1100 rpm at that low speed. watched the Tach it doesnt change stays the same.

My dad has a 99' Expedition and put the same type of solution in his tranny and has no issues since. It is a known issue and that's why companies make anti-shutter solutions to put in transmissions. Normally if a coil pack was going bad you would get a cel or some sort of indication of a misfire.
