Hoping the column mounted cable runs a different route than the floor mounted.

I think you are probably fine. Mine burnt because it goes through the firewall, then rests on the manifold, before heading towards the transmission. I have to think the floor mounted shifter has a shorter cable with a different run to the trans. Probably actually doesn't come anywhere near the manifolds.
You could crawl under, and follow the cable from the linkage on the trans, and just see if it is making contact with anything.
Edit: You can't just "crawl" under your truck. Guess you'll have to grab a jack as well.
