Try changing the TPS (throttle position sensor) on the throttle body.
It controls shifts in relation to throttle input...

How much throttle do you give it when you reapply the throttle? And try it with the cruise control. Like have cruise control on at 70 hit the brake then as you do that hit the set speed if you have cruise control since its an Stx I'm not sure if you do or not. But if you do see if it does it then. And to answer your when's enough enough I had a shop rebuild my Lincoln's 4r70w 3 times before I said **** it I want my money back straight up. I say tell them to do one last rebuild and you want your money back if it doesn't work.

So I met the shop manager this morning first thing when they opened. You could tell he knew what was coming. I stayed cool with him, but I made him understand that this was the last chance they get. I didn't threaten for my money back, but they understand I'm serious.

I had one of the mechanics ride with me... I wanted to make sure they understood what I was doing to cause the problem. I felt like a jack***** at first because I couldn't get the truck to do it. Of course the guy kept saying, "I believe you", but I wanted him to see it. Sure enough, as soon as we got off the highway it did it.

My STX does have cruise control; however, I didn't think to do that. I did however show him that by turning OD off, the problem went away. As far as how much gas I'm giving it when I let off, it's not much. I can barely put pressure on the pedal and as soon as it hits OD, I feel the jerking in the truck. It last a split second and vibrates the truck. After it did it the first time, it consistantly did it... even at lower speeds.

My biggest fear here is that they are going to come back and try to tell me its not in the transmission... which will really **** me off because when I delivered the truck to them the only problem I had was a whine in the tranny... no jerking sensation. I made it clear this morning that I wasn't pointing fingers, but they needed to understand simply that I didn't have this problem before they rebuilt it.

0hsiks, did they refund you the money? I have a feeling they would say absolutely hell no w/o a doubt because of the new parts and the 8 hours of labor.

Yeah they returned my money. Because it was costing them more money to have to keep rebuilding it. And by the sounds of it sounds like the torque converter clutch is all cracked out but it only does it in over drive. Not 3rd because it will lock up in third for mileage and stuff too. I say tell them they have one more shot or you want your money back.

Well the good thing is they haven't given up yet, and getting upset won't help the situation, but everybody has there limits: here's another solution, ask them for a loaner or a rental and they will be just as put out as you are and make your truck a priority.

Thanks for the reply guys. They shop did finally offer me a rental vehicle. So at this point they are paying for their mistakes. They informed me they are hoping to have the truck for three days or less... I guess we'll see where it goes from here.

I do however intend on doing a ride with them when I get it back... I want to make sure they are with me if it happens again.

Ok everyone, so here is where I'm at.

The transmission shop called me and said their baffled... no clue. They are however putting in a reman transmission as the next step. They are getting the transmission from "Transtar"... anyone know about this company?

They are going in the right direction for you at least, there could be some tolernces that are off in the tranny housings etc. These are things you deal with in service and as we would like it to be perfect it's not. Be glad you seemed to get a company that stands behind there work. Hard to find these days and it's costing them money every time your truck comes back. Good Luck!

Very much agreed. While it has been a long process, I appreciate everything they've done to help. The only concern I've had is that they are going to come back after they put the reman in and say the problem still exist and go looking elsewhere in the truck... they were with me when I drove the truck out on the street with them when I first gave them the truck and that problem did not exist. Can only hope they understand that they caused the problem... regardless of where it's at in the truck, it was certainly not doing that before I took it in.

But yes, I think they've done an awesome job so far. Just that one concern now.
