Default Transmission Quandry

I am not sure why this question was removed yesterday, if anyone knows, please let me know.

I need some help. My 05 Lariat 150 4x4 with a 5.4L has the transmission starting to fail. I have been looking for a replacement at salvage yards and have been told that the trans that I need is a 4R75W. According to my door code for the trans TR = B and what I have read on here about it and other sites, I have a 4R75E. When I tell this to the salvage yards, they get snippy with me and since their computers tell them that I need a 4R75W, then I am wrong. I called two different dealerships and had them look up the VIN. It shows them that I need a 4R75E. One dealership did tell me that he showed that the computer showed 4R75E/W. He was not sure if this meant I could use both transmissions.

From what I have read, the 4R75E is better. One salvage yard has an E for a 2006, would that fit on my truck? Are the E and W able to fit on my truck?

Please help!!!

Have you tried to plug your vin # into the Ford parts site to see what it says? Worth a try...

I did download the VIN Decoder PDF for my truck from Ford, but after going through it character by character, I was dismayed to find that it did not say anything about the transmission.

Thanks Barriosman! I will give that a try and see what it shows. I am concerned that it will show that I need a 4R75E. Then I will be in the same spot as I am now. I wonder what kind of software that the salvage yards use that would have such a discrepency.

The "E" is for electronic and the "W" is for wide ratio from what I have understood from my transmission adventure. The "E" means improved electronic controls to work with the throttle by wire design of our trucks.

Thank you for the help. But I am still not sure if the 06 4r75E will fit my truck. The Ford Parts site shows that I need a 4R75E/W! Why can't this be easier? From what I understand from what I have read, if my truck is using the E, it can use W, but E would be best. Is that right?

You definitely have the 4r75E if you have an F150.
