I have a 2004 F 150 5.4L 3 valve. I just have the motor replaced at 158K. My question is....What is the transmission life on that truck? It is a automotic 4wd. I have never towed anything in the 6 years I've had the truck. I use the 4WD about once a month or so. Thanks Guys.

I have a 2004/2005 5.4 and the engine is great never had one problem with the whole truck but about 2 weeks ago my forward drum went in the transmition and that was about 1300 bucks. I have 130k and they say it's a common problem in some models of trucks and the 2004-2006 f150 is one of em. But now that that's replaced my truck has a whole new life and is good for another 120k or so atleast

All depends on how hard the truck was run earlier on in life. If it was towing a lot without the tow package and driven hard without fluid changes then it's obviously not going to last as long. When I was looking at trucks to buy one guy replaced his at 120k along with his engine but other people have made it to 200K + with it

Thanks guys. I bought my truck with about 35k on it. The motor went out at 158k. I have done zero towing. I got a re-manufactured motor with a 3 yr unlimited mile warranty. I get all the services done, etc since I have had it. I just wanted to get a consensus from you guys to see if any of you have had your tranny go out. I'm just trying to do all the math/money involved in keeping my truck up and running. It's paid off and don't feel like dropping the serious dough involved in a new F 150, eventhough it would look so nice in my driveway!

Running an 04 like u. 76k mild towing at best. So far mine has been smooth and ok. Responds well to heavy pedal. I'm hopeful for 200k plus but u never know.
