You're about to become the proud owner of a new transmission.

Sounds like you dropped at least 3rd gear. Had that happen to my 07 in August. Cost me $2600 to get it rebuilt... Did it do a hard downshift before the rpms just started climbing? Mine did. Was going 75 and got on the gas to change lanes, it downshifted hard, then my rpms started just climbing. Still had 1st, 2nd, and reverse, but if it tried to shift out of 2nd it would free rev. Ended up blowing 3rd and 4th gear, inner drum stripped (likely causing the issues), burned all my clutches, burned the OD band, messed up the OD piston, and shot stuff all through the valve body. Landed me a complete rebuild, and the shop added a shift kit. Transmission ran perfect aside from a valve body spring breaking, which got replaced under warranty.

Pop that drain pan off and see if there are shiny metal flakes in it. That will be a dead giveaway if it were trans issues

and if you find a yellow plastic plug in the pan ... you know it has never been serviced too.
