true it's a real hit and miss, i have heard ALOT of bad stories, i was at the dealer getting some parts a few years back and a got blew his diesel on a 90+ degree day hauling cattle on the interstate, i could hear him screaming thru the phone, it was quite funny, but when you drop 50grand on a truck that makes your living, i can see the frustration and anger

im gonna have to say no...most likely ZF instead, most likely working with Navistar......the trans was built at the sharronville drivetrain plant, there is no evidence of allison building the torqshift.

My Explorer has 214,000 and no major problems, not even a water pump, alternator, or a single transmission probelm. Runs great. Our family is a Ford family and we get 250,000 plus on our cars with reasonable mainteance. Not the same luck with the foreign cars! Maybe Ford is buying too many parts from Japan now.
61 Ford - 240,000 + sold still running good when sold
73 Ford LTD - 200,000 plus almost no problems, sold
74 FORD LTD - 260,000 plus, no major mechanical work, sold still running excellent
1988 Taurus -200,000 gave to in-laws still running good (on auto trans. rebuild)
Maybe you should look at the Toyota forums to get a reality check. I used to work on a lot of Toyotas and the were becomming big business in my automotive machine shop before I changes jobs. Check out the steering and safety failures in Toyota- scarry! Fords are generally very safe and reliable transportation, but not all of them like any other manufacture! (Mercedes - broken crank at 70,000, easy driving, multiple tail light - said to be from closing the trunk lid too hard.)
