Default Transfer Case Stuck in 4wd Low

Was driving in the snow last week with the kids having fun with the 4x4; I haven't used the 4wd low yet so I switched it into 4 low while I was driving (in hindsight, I realize I might have made a mistake with this decision). I am now stuck in 4 Low and it won't switch out.

I have tried the basics of; put in neutral and press the brake, but that has not done anything to help. Has anyone had this happen to them? What could the possible problems be?

i didnt think the case would go into 4lo without being at a stop and the vehicle in neutral? probably some type of solenoid though.....

I have heard, seen, and read people drive the truck in reverse and it finally shifted out. I don't know if it will work with the newer models but i've seen it done with the older models.

put it "N" switch to 2WD...put it into "R" and back up for 10-30 feet...mine will not go into 4L without the truck being in "N" and stopped. does the 4L light go off ??

Default 98 F150 Stuck in 4wd lo. Manual 5 speed on floor shifter

Hi im new to this forum but either way im trying to find out how to get my truck out of 4wd lo. ive tried the brake and neutral and unhooking the battery, and the reverse method. ive also replaced the solenoids as well how ever ther is a big either vent or vacuum hose coming off of the top of the transfer case that is not hooke to anything. should this be hooked to something or is this just a vent? and how can i manually get this thing out of 4wd?

You brought back to life a 5 year old thread dealing with 04-08 SOTF = shift on the fly 4WD system.. You have have a 98 manual 4WD system.. You will not get much help unless you post in the correct year group for your truck. You need to get under your truck and free up the shift linkage to your transfer case.. Disconnect it and see if you can move the lever on the t-case.
