Default Transfer case question

I have a 05 scab 5.4 4x4. Having what I think is a transfer case motor problem. Once a month I run my 4 wheel drive both high and low. Usually in a parking lot and always in a straight line. Lately 4 high will work, I think, but when I put it in 4 low its not dropping(clunk) in to low. The light is on though. If I cycle it a couple times it does drop in. But lately it won't at all. My question is, if it's not dropping into low will 4 high still work? Reason is I've never used low and don't think I ever will need to. Is it worth switching it out if I won't use 4 low if that's the case. Btw I've replaced both IWEs and solenoid on the firewall last year. I've heard about the light tap of a hammer to get it to engage, I'll replace it before dealing with that. Plus i dont want it to drop into 4 low and not be able to get it back out. Thanks

Transfer case motors are a common problem with these trucks.

I'd recommend actually verifying it on dirt rather than dry pavement. These motors are known to fail and there is a write up somewhere on here about replacement.
