^ tareed and Lone - I agree with you.

I was in a pinch and didn't want to clog my brand new catalytic converter. Better performance and smoother idle was just a bonus.

The 45-55 jerk was starting to disturb me.. something had to give

I don't think that's true... the CEL should at least blink with a misfire, regardless of how many coils might be bad. If that was true, you'd have a code for more than one cylinder misfiring every time you had a misfire CEL, and that doesn't happen. But heyy I've been wrong before.

I think the CEL only shows under certain conditions. I know that it should show if the coil has completely failed. After reading so many post on coils - i think anything is possible .

You will still have a code and if you have a code reader, the last digit of the code will tell you what coil it is but mine didn't throw a CEL.

These trucks can and will misfire without triggering the CEL. Been there and done that on 2 of my F150s.
