Trans Fault Msg and O/D light Flashing
Hello, Any help will be very welcome.
Last Week I was on the border crossing line @ 118 F outside temperature, meantime I was waiting I heard a shime and then the O/D light start flashing and a Trans Fault code appeared. once I crossed the border and ran the truck(careful) the code dissapear.
I brought my truck to the dealer for a diagnostic and they told me that an overheat code was detected and they need to teardown my tranny in order to fix it. I went for a 2nd opinion to a tranny shop and pretty the same answer.
Tranny is kind of hesitating on the first shift but the other 2 + O/d are shifting fine. BTW I reviewed the oil and it looks darker than normal and has a burnt odor on it.
Any advice or suggestions will be very helpful.

Mine did some thing similar but mine over heated when I got stuck in the mud and symptoms were a lot worse it would shift into 1 at all and reverse barely worked I had to get the whole trans replaced luckily I still had some warranty but it was all just due to the over heating so I would definetly not ignore the issue

Do you have an Edge tuner?? This is a symptom of the edge.. I had it happen to me, re flashed and I haven't seen it since however my truck never went into any sort of limp mode or anything i must add.

That exact same thing happened to me last winter. I know it wasn't an overheating issue because my truck wasn't even warm. That led me to believe that it was my edge. After some discussion on this forum I updated it to the newest software and haven't had the problem since.

if you at the end decide that nothing needs to be done, at the bare minimum, consider to change that transmission fluid. it should be read and clear. how many miles in your truck? how many since the last transmission oil change?

I also have this problem but I had my tranny rebuilt and also have the edge, I get the trans fault with the OD light flashing. But only when it's on level three. After that fault comes up I barely have a first and pretty much no second. A quick fix is reprogramming to level 1 or 2. Then it works fine. It's friggin annoying!!

Thanks for your feedback, I went to an other shop and they refuse to do the service due they are pretty sure that I would need to rebuild it.
Probably I would need to do the service by myself.

I have an F150 4x2 and I'm not sure what is wrong but I have a transfault warning and my O/D light is blinking? The trans seems to be working fine? I just turned 310,000 with no problems. My Oil is a little overdue for a change but am wondering if the fluid in my tranny needs to be changed as well.
