tranny fluid
Hey just wondering if anybody has had good results using the castrol transmax mercon v in their rig? Getting ready to do a pan drop on the transmission and just curious which I should go with. My truck has had FM mercon v its entire life I've owned it. Bought it with 38,000 miles and now have around 208,000. All original. 5.4 l crew can xlt. Thanks

If it were me, I would stick with Motorcraft ATF. I just feel that they have tested their fluid on their transmissions and know best. A lot of people swear by Amsoil's ATF and yet others like other brands. I'm not a brand loyalist. but when it comes to the transmission oil and engine oil I stick to the manufacturer's recommendation.
Regarding Castrol Transmax, I couldn't say as I have never tried it.

For what it's worth, I'm running pure castrol transmax merc V with zero problems.. I flushed it through my tranny about 5 quarts at a time with a drain plug. I'm at 183k on my original tranny, supercharged engine, and zero problems.. So castrol merc V is a win in my book.

As with any product, there's always going to be an adversment for a better mouse trap. I'm not denying that there are equal products out there that will work as good as what you have, but in this case, the FM mercron v proved itself, so I'd stick with it.

Ok so ill just stick with the FM Mercon v since my tranny seems to like it. Now about how many quarts will I need to do a pan drop with filter change? Is it best to change it fill it up, cycle the new with the old and then drop pan again to get as much of the old out? Or is one tine enough. I know its not even close to getting it all out. Never touched the tranny before so just curious. Thanks
