I have a 28ft boat that weighs about 5500 lbs, but I wont post pictures and bragg like ^ haha, anyways, Im not sure if your truck is lifted or not, but my 150 has to pull 38' tires, but it's set up for towing, gear wise and I have bags, and when it comes up on a grade, its a pretty though pull (slow and stedy wins the race). With that being said, the motor NEVER overheats, the trans still shifts smooth, and there is no sign of any damage....In my opinion, if you have plenty of time to get to the desert, you'll be ok, but if your lookin to haul *** out there, buy a diesel!

Do you have the 5.4? How often do you plan on pulling the TH around? Seasonal?? I've seen more weight being pulled than you are talking about with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears. If you are talking about a few times a year pulling the TH around, I wouldn't trade it. If you are patient while pulling, the 5.4 will not disappoint.
But if you intend on filling the cargo bed up with gear and filling the cabinets up with food and water and cokes and ETC....you might want to upgrade if you end up pulling it every month somewhere. ...40 gallons of freshwater and 20 gallons of hot water and 15 gallons of gray water is a lot of weight to haul around...on top of food, bedding, plates, glasses, cloths...etc....not to mention toys, protective gear, tools..etc etc...
Screw it....go buy a F350 Dually!!!!
PS. I would try pulling the TH and all gear needed at least once to see how it does before dropping 70K in a F350 Dually..MHO

im in the same boat as you chize.....i have 3 quads and go to the dunes almost every weekend during the summer months....im in the market for a TH but not sure which is right for my truck?!?!?!?
I thought about the whole trade in for a diesel, but i wouldn't use it as much as i think(waste of money).....they are awesome trucks and i could buy almost any TH with a diesel but i love my F150, so i'll just keep shopping for something that can fit 3 quads and gear and still be pulled by my truck........let me know what you come up with

Good rule of thumb is the 80% rule. That means don't buy a RV that the dry weight is more than 80% of your truck's tow rating. My 04 F150 is rated to tow 8000lbs, so I don't plan on buying anything heavier than 6400lbs dry. And I'll try to stay in the mid to high 5000lb range.
