Default Towing question

Does anyone know how an 2004 f150 heritage towes? It has a 4.2 liter v6 and it is a 5 speed. I am getting ready to buy a boat and was wondering if I am going to have problems towing due to lack of power. Its not a big boat it is a 18 foot jet boat.

I have a 04 fx4 w/ a 5.4 in it so this is only my opinion since they are different vehicles. I also deal with boats every day too so here is this guys opinion...take a peek and get your model ie make, year, etc, etc, of your boat. The jet will lighten up the boat too, it also will not make it as squirrely when you are towing it. No matter what turn off the OD...don't forget to turn off the Over drive, and definately do not forget to turn off the overdrive should you have one. I wouldn't think twice about towing an 18' boat with your vehicle. What I would look at is the trailer condition, TIRES being super huge since it sucks to be on the side of the road without a spare. Oh, don't forget that OD.

It is a stick shift. I would think that it would be better to tow with a stick shift? I am concerned about the lack of power because it has a 4.2 liter v6. The boat weigh is around 1500 lbs. I am not sure what the trailer weighs.

2004 F150
Max Towing Capacity

For a 4x2 Auto Trans (4.2L): 5500 lbs (Only lists a 3.55 axle)
For a 4x2 Manual Trans (4.2L) : 3.08 Axle = 2000 lbs and the 3.55 Axle = 3300 lbs

My dad towed our 18' searay all over the place with a s10 blazer. Your probably ok if you arnt going to be towing your boat 100miles to the lake every weekend. So to basicly answer your question your truck should handle the weight ok, but it would be better to keep it local unless you have the lower gears. They do make manuals that are better for towing than the autos, if this was one of them they would let you buy it with a v8.
