What would your hesitations be? Safety, equipment failure?

8k is really pushing the motor, the frame, and the brakes. I wouldn't even consider this without a big old trans cooler either. Just because it is a truck, doesn't mean you can do anything with it. Go look at the axles, frame rails, tires, and brakes on a super duty and it is readily apparent that those are deigned to tow a lot. Whereas a half to is design to tow SOME but not 8k lbs. Especially this generation of truck. The new F150s and I understand have a beefier frame.

I've been going by the VIN build sheet specific to this truck which lists the towing capacity as follows:
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt.8500, 9500, 6300 lbs (6300.0 min/9500.0max)
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt.850, 950, 630 lbs (630.0 min/950.0max)Gross Combined Wt Rating14000, 15000, 11700 lbs (11700.0 min/15000.0max)

I have the tow package, higher gearing, heavy duty brakes, etc. Using a brake controller, weight distribution hitch. I've not had any trouble stopping, really only issue is a lack of power uphill that seems to be the result of the 35" tires. I'm re-gearing to 4.56 next week and have a tranny temp app going in. Will have to report back on performance after thats all done.
