Default Tires causing a major drop in mileage, for which reason?

'07 FX2
After about a year of fighting previous owner neglect, I finally got my 5.4 up to about 19-20 mpg. I recently had an opportunity to get some like new tires from a shop, goodyear wrangler s/a's, went up from 60 to 65 ratio on the sidewalls. My mpg drops to 14-15. I'm going to go ahead and get a new set as it will pay off with another 5 mpg, most likely going back to the original bfg long trails, but I want to make an informed decision. Is it the width of the goodyears? Rubber comp? Tread profile? Has anyone had any better luck with any other brands? I run into gravel and mud on a weekly basis, but nothing too deep, a standard all weather tread will do.

Durr, forgot to put down the tire size:
From BFG Long Trail Radial TA p265/60r18
To Goodyear Wrangler SR-A p275/65r18

It could be the weight, or the size increase could be throwing the speedo and odometer off a little which would give a false reading. Or the previous owner had it recalibrated for larger tires so the smaller ones gave a false reading of fuel economy. I lean more towards the weight or the slight size increase.

There haven't been any speedo gear changes. The speed looks right with both tire sizes, nothing changed other than moving from 60-65 on the ratio of the sidewall to the width and 265 to 275.

Tire rack shows that the stock size with 18's is 265/60R18. The previous owner increased the width which also increased the height, but when you changed the height it changed a fair bit. According to rimsntires.com's size comparer the speedo should be off by like 3mph and that the new tire is .4" wider and 2" taller than stock. Weight could still be a factor between the tires but I can't find a weight on the SR-A's to confirm that.

I also have a 07 FX2 Supercrew with 5.4, Edge Evolution, true dual Flowmasters with 285/50/20 Goodyear Eagle II, I average 17-18 mpg hand calculated for what its worth. I do a lot of 55mph average on a 20 mile commute. Help this helps.

Thanks for the input guys. Went back to the original spec tires, and went back to around 400 miles per tank. Gonna chalk it up to increased rolling resistance.
