Default 5.4 v8 rough idle at high temps after oil change

Purchased used.
they did an oil change after purchase. No idea when last was. But for 1 week prior zero issues.
Day after the oil change. After 45 min on Hwy. At a stop lighy the truck to to shudder.

I spoke to a mechanic. He told me it sounded like. If I got this right. That the sequencer screens for the phaser or such must have gotten clogged.

Does this sound right?
It was the next ride after the oil change so I'm sure its oil related.

What parts would this entail. And what sort of fix?

Pretty pissed. But used cars. Sigh.

Thanks

I've seen it where the Jiffy Lube guy never drains the old oil and over fills the crankcase. Have you checked your dipstick?

I did and the levels fine.
the guy I talked to was pretty solid for what caused it. Didn't even need to think about it

There's no screens on a phaser. Did he say phaser or VCT solenoid? The solenoids have screens, and have had issues for some people with getting clogged.

Also, what year is your truck? I believe in 2006 or 2007 is when they changed the valve cover design and the VCT solenoid design.

When misfires start it may seem like something else triggered it . True your vcts solenoids could be clogged they are a maint item and they have been improved never hurts to change them . But corroded cop terminals ,non locking connectors bad plugs /old boots should be ruled out first . You need to download codes ,if no codes you need to have someone with a mode six display tell you the raw misfires per cly .There is a high threshold that ford sets to set cel code. You can pay $5 for torque pro /a cheap android phone /bluetooth reader from amazon around 25 bucks and look under test results .
You could have cop going bad but clean it and connectors first . Learn to do a good plug change this engine very fussy but if done right it will last 60k mi. Moisture and junk in spark wells does not help blow out with air before you remove plugs .
We will be here to help you thru all this and more.

Vct yes sorry.
it happened right after the oil change so his theory seems more believable.

Faulty spark plug 4
Clogged or faulty fuel injector 4
Faulty ignition coil 4
Fuel injector 4 harness is open or shorted
Fuel injector 4 circuit poor electrical connection
Ignition coil 4 harness is open or shorted
Ignition coil 4 circuit poor electrical connection

These are the possible causes of the p0304 code. Definitely does not point to a VCT issue. You've got a misfire on cylinder 4. When was the last time your plugs were changed?

P0304 is a mis-fire DTC.. cylinder #4 is right where you dump the oil. Maybe hit a wire ?
