Tire size question -2006 F150 - help please!
Hi guys,
First, the guys on this forum are great, you helped me fix my miss...new plugs and one new coil and I'm back in business! No broken plugs, whew!
2006 F150 super cab, 8' bed, tow package. Currently have the Grabber tires, 32k miles on the truck (original tires) and they're getting old...want to replace today with Michelin LTX M/S 2 but like a moron I've waited too long and now I can't find those tires in my size...which is 245/70R 17. No one seems to have them in stock. I want to get an E rated tire because sometimes I do carry heavy loads.
I'm wondering if there's another size that will fit my truck that might be more readily available without screwing up the geometry of the alignment or whatever (I don't REALLY know what I'm talking about here).
Was also looking at the Cooper Discoverer HTP tires but I'm concerned that they won't like the heavy loads I occasionally carry. I mostly drive on city streets and freeways in California...never any snow.
Thoughts?
THANKS!

The overall diameter of the LT245/70R17 stock tires is approx. 30.5"-30.6". If you find a brand & model of tire you're interested, stick with anything close to 30.5" - 30.6" diameter and you should be fine. One option is 265/65R17 which I believe is the same diameter, but may not come in LT. The stock size on my truck is LT245/70R17 but I have use 265/70R17 as that seems to be a size with lots of tire options. The diameter is slightly larger so you're actually travelling faster than your speedometer reading, but everything else works fine.
