Default Tire Chains

Any tips on driving with tire chains on? I bought a set over the summer but have never put them on. The last time I put a set on was about 30 years ago. We are expecting winter weather here in Alabama Friday night. I know to keep it slow and zip tie the loose ends up.

Seems overkill unless yo are going off road. Are they not illegal on the roads? They really tear the crap out of pavement.

I live up in snow country and have never had a set of tire chains on.

We only need them a couple of times in the winter. Not much snow removal equipment down here in Alabama. This pic is the start of the storm.

Ahh way south and snowy. Bad combo. You gets get a couple inches and all hell breaks loose. Can't imagine with this big storm.

Here in Halifax i've driven through more than 2' of snow without the tire chains. 4x4 is the best for snow, but it looks like your truck is probably RWD. Try putting something heavy in the bed, that will help your traction alot too.

I've never seen chains on a road vehicle before. I always thought they were illegal here in Wisconsin but now that I've done a little research turns out they are not illegal and even tires with tungsten carbide studs can be used in some cases. Hmm, who knew.

Just my 2 cents...
I've lived in Iowa and Oregon... Chains and/or traction tires (studs) are required by law in certain situations in both states. Never have I heard of them being illegal. Maybe certain states have different laws, but this has been my experience.

Most laws require that chains not contact pavement. Of course pavement eats them anyway.
