aside from pulling cams, what options do I have?replace the motor, or tear it apart and see what's causing it, to possibly replace it anyway. and am I correct if the cams or caps have wear, they'll need replaced to? on a motor with 158k, and the issues it's had idk if I'd wanna do that.

Its a loaded question. If other areas of the motor are showing wear, a refurb may be best. I would certainly consider it at this point if I was you.

Best of luck. I'm interested in what you find.

Not sure a cat would cause an oil pressure issue.

On the dorman parts they offer two teirs of product. One they manufacture for retailers and one that is their premium line that's a better part. Kind of like motorcraft break pads from the dealer. Motorcraft comes on red boxes but the true oem part comes in a blue box.

I didn't think so, but I'm looking for any opinions I can. I'm in the process of tearing it apart today, 1 valve cover off so far then I'll see what I have inside. I'm not sure on the dorman parts, all I know is the phasers are 917-250

the valve covers are off. passenger side front cam lobes which is pic 2 and 3 seem to me to have excessive wear. all 3 of the lobes show wear, but the rear 2 seem to be worst, middle by far worst. is that a correct opinion?

timing cover is off. the passenger side timing chain was loose on the top side (from phaser to crank)and the tensioner is extremely tight. 2 hands I can make it move very little. driver side chain was snug, tensioner moves with 1 hand relatively easily.

is the tensioner tight fully extended or is it still pushed in some? Tensioners don't cost much, I would probably go pick up another one or swap the other to that side temporarily and see if the chain tightened. As far as the cam lobes, someone will probably chime in but I have definitely seen worse. How are the lash adjusters and followers? When I did my kit, I changed those out as well, found out I had 13 bad lash adjusters, they were either bled down all the way or stuck in a full out position. Changed it all and no problems in about the last 10-12000 miles.
