Taking an alternator off isn't hard at all, I would do that then take it to a auto parts store to get it tested. If you wanna save yourself the extra trip, take it to them to test the same day your going to buy a new one because there is a "core" charge on there of like $10-$20 that you get off if you return your old one. Make sure the new one has the same Amps and belt configuration.

I changed out my alternator on my truck already, but I used a higher amperage alternator. Only because of the aftermarket accessories I have. So if you have any additions, I would go with a higher amperage alternator if possible.

If your voltage is dropping it is likely your alternator. Maybe your battery lost enough charge to not turn the starter. Try jumping it again. If nothing check the basics. Tight battery connections, clean ground, connections to starter. If it was in the mud, your starter connections might be dirty and not making a good connection. Good luck.

It's because of the peanut butter on your edge.

Update: Thunder has a brand new alternator and the starter was removed, cleaned and put back on, and starts GREAT now! When I took it out for a drive, got P0731/0732 codes and P1000 code and the O/D light also flashes. WTF??? Really hoping my transmission sensors are just dirty like I've been reading up on. My transmission fluid is fine and I just had it flushed only about 20k miles ago, so it can't be flakes in my tranny. And it feels like the 3rd and 4th gears are just fine.
