Default Throttle body question

Hello everyone. I had a question about an issue that im having with my 2006 F-150 5.4L Super Crew.

Recently I have been experiencing a problem that sends my truck into reduced speed mode. The "wrench" light will show up on the dashboard, the engine will derate to 1000rpm, the accelarator pedal will not work, and I am forced to pull over, turn the truck off and then on to reset the computer and I will be on my way for days to weeks until it happens again. Recently on a road trip, the same thing happend to me and this time the check engine light also illuminated. I reluctantly brought in the truck to the dealer only to be told that I need a new throttle body assembly and that the throttle body is sending a bad signal to the ECM. Now I am a marine mechanic and deal with fuel injected engines all the time. Can some one please clarify or shed some light on this situation for me, I feel that the TPS sensor would be what is to blame, not having to replace the entire throttle body. I feel that they are trying to stick it to me. All responses will greatly appreciated!!!!

I looked in to replacing my throtle body when my truck kept running a code for it. I also thought it was just the TPS. When I called to see how much a new sensor was I was told that you couldn't just buy the sensor that you had to by the whole assembly. I was told this by two auto part stores. But my truck is a 2004 5.4. So it maybe diferent on an 06

Default maybe some hope...

Yeah this is a little weird how Ford handles these throttle bodys. Most of the time it is the TPS that is bad and they do say that you must replace the whole thing together, but....
I have seen the TPS sold seperately, mostly on ebay and some other online parts stores. I have also removed my throttle body before and it looks like there is a way to pull the TPS off of it. I have a 2005 5.4.
Pull your TB off and check it out if you haven't already. Mine has a little screw on the inside wall (if I remember correctly) and there's another screw on the outside by the sensor. It looks like you can pull those and remove the sensor.

The entire TB is 280.00 from ford, I can't remember how much I saw that sensor for, but I know it was below 100.00. The only issue you would have is to get the correct part number. But hell, it is probably printed on the old sensor.

Oh yeah, and check the wiring on the wiring harness that connects to your tps. I found on my truck a few different places where the wiring melted because it came too close to the engine and some shmuck that worked on or owned my truck before me didn't replace the harness brackets or holddown thingys.
