I got my 06 FX4 screw with leather, power everything, sunroof, Fabtech 6 inch lift, no nav or sliding window for $13k with 130k. Bought Sept last year.

I will say two things first...every brand of truck has issues and two... I do love mine.....but beware - even low kms there is some things to look for ...leaking cab brake light, misc other leaks, clutches in rear end several times, pinion seal, axle seals, 4x4 solenoid, exhaust manifolds and cam phasers to name a few....I certainly wouldn't spend 17k on on a 05. I bought my 07 FX4 crew loaded for 19k...

For reference, I too purchased an '07 FX4 'Off road' for $19K. 50K miles, luxury package with almost every Lariat option, straight as an arrow and no rust.

Default Be prepared to spend

At 160k my 2005 5.4 rwd lariat ,driven in salt free roads with care ,new engine quote 7500. I fixed it for 1400 in parts . Hard job !
Just did the revised brake assembly centric on fronts 250.
Fuel module 60 . throttle body to replace defective series 200. Struts 300. Ball joints moog ,sway bar stuff 600. Front brake calipers sticking 120 each .
Window controls twice ,50 each . Window regulator 150 .
Upgrade to remove old fan ,install efan 600.
engine belt 60. Injectors 250.
Spark plug removal kit, plugs 200 every 50 k or less.
Coil on plug 60 x 8 =500 or so .
Waiting for water pump fail, pinion seal failing ,engine pulley fails ,alternator etc ,that's why I want efan . Need to change all hoses and rubber vacuum lines soon .
Drain type transmission pan on next service .Service differential . trying for 300k beats new truck price .
always run synthetics, napa filters ,champion plugs .
This engine takes a lot of work . I can imagine what kind of problems with these newer turbo engines --don't want one . GMC 5.3l engine seems like a much better deal, most came with efan ,very little problems . Easier to work on . Ford engineering poor to repair .

My thoughts too. I've never heard of someone having that many problems. Regardless of the auto maker. Raked over the hot coals and BACK again!

I got my 08 KR with 61k for 19,700 here. Absolute cherry condition. Prices will vary depending on your area. Here, these trucks will sell for 15-25 for this generation with low miles. Sucks, but it's where I live :/ However, to me, I feel very happy with my purchase. I love this truck and do not plan on selling it. I have invested only $130 in fixing a worn sunroof track.

Default I did all my own work

These repairs were for materials only mostly oem .
When you find a valve roller kicked to the side when you take cover off- that is hosed by whom .
Maybe by the manufacturer. These failures are wide spread across the 150 forum and are a result of ford engineering and using poor parts . I feel the poor oil pump ,bad tensioner seals , bad plastic chain guides lead to the dreaded 5.4l engine replacement .
I am 70 years old and I have had many fords including at least 10 company cars . I loved my 1973 ford station wagon with the 351 cleveland engine, I had 150k on her when she was turned in . Never had any engine work and she went on another 100k after I turned her back to fleet .
I gain nothing by being honest about my repairs . I am not a sheep and I follow no banner blindfolded .
I have found a lot of help on here and I intend to help anyone I can . I don't spend any time jacking up my truck with lift kits or pimping it out . It is a nice looking 05 lariat supercrew that works when I need it .
Thanks to all who provide constructive advice .

I'm just saying I've owned 3 vehicles in my whole life. All Ford pickups, 85, 02, and now 07. The 02 had the lowest miles of any starting at 84k when I bought it. With all 3 combined I have not even done 1/3 of that work maybe even less. Everyone gets a bad truck, tv, house, ect once in awhile. I really feel that your experience does not match that of the majority of Fords. Yes those problems are documented but not all on 1 TRUCK!! lol I kind of feel bad for you man.
