Default Think I could swap out?

I am getting close to the 200,000 mile mark on my 2004 F150 5.4 I started having the cam phaser tick again.. I am exploring my options because I love my truck and want her to last another 200,000 miles. I have thought about having the engine rebuilt, with a few extras... or... I could try to swap out the motor with a Raptor engine.. Think that is possible? Might be walking into a little cash here in the next few months so I might have some to play with.. Would I have to swap out transmissions as well if I go with the Raptor engine? I am not that educated when it comes to major engine stuff, so a little insight would be appreciated. So if you were in my shoes, what would be the best route to go? Rebuild what I have or try to swap out engines?

It would take more than just swapping motors 5.4L to 6.2L if thats the Raptor motor your talking about...Raptor also comes with a 5.4L

Yeah, I would have to swap out motors, transmissions, and PCMs.. Whats the difference in a Raptor 5.4 and my F150 5.4?

Isn't the 5.4 no longer available in the raptor?

I'd see if I could get a newer 5.4 . probably one of the easiest options, and the best option IMO.

yeah i just looked it up for sure....it was available for 2010 (no 2009 raptor, they came out for 2010), but discontinued after that 1 year....and considering not many 2010s are gave out yet, it may not be the easiest job to find a raptor 5.4.....

to the OP, if you can manage to find and install a 5.4 from a raptor, that would be awesome. but I'd go with a newer 5.4 swap for sure .

I'm in a similar boat w/ you OP, and curious as to what the responses will be!

-----> My 04 has just at 290,000 miles on the original engine. Never had engine problems and it runs good- but I'm nervous as H3LL about having almost 300k on it!

Some people say "run it till it explodes! THEN put a new motor in it".
Some say have it rebuilt when it starts acting up...

I think we are in the same situation of not wanting to be stranded on the side of the road! (Especially since mine is now a secondary vehicle I only drive in bad weather or camping/ski trips!)

i dont have as many miles as you guys but i think upgrading from my puny 4.6L to a 6.2L would be so badass. Im like you and dont have much knowledge about cars when it comes to under the hood. i have done some research about engine swapping to a 6.2 and have found nothing, I really want to do this too. I would think you would need a new tranny too but im not sure. i basically posted this for the reason that I want to follow this thread and see what people have to say.
