A few weeks ago i heard a tapping coming from behind my dash sounded like someone was behind the radio with a pencil. it would not change with fan speed and it would come and go. When it started O would put the temp control **** all the way to heat or cold and it stopped.
I took it into ford dealership this morning and they replaced the temperature BLEND AIR DOOR ACTUATOR. It was under warranty but the invoice showed a total of $67.13 that was billed to ford warranty.
and it was ready with in 6 hours.

Anyone hearer of this part going bad? what is it and where is it located?

Atleast they are available again. Not sure what year yours is but I was having all sorts of trouble with the heater in my 07 Lariat with the Climate Control it was either freezing or cooking in there. They decided that it was the blend door actuator back in Dec and part finally showed up in March a month after I got rid of it. Dealership said they had 5 with the same problem.

What is blend door, I will try to be brief. In todays trucks there is water flowing through the heater core at all times, no water shut off valve. So they use a door to mix or blend air flow across the heater core for temperature settings. Warmer air, more air flow across heater core, cooler air or AC, no air flow. The actuator does this and is vacuum operated. It is located on the AC/heater plenium chamber under the dash. Hope this helps.

Sure does! I always wondered why that center tempurature dial switch seemed so "easy" to turn left and right (hot to cold)...from previous vehicles, I knew it was used to open/close a valve that fed water to the heater core. Your explaination cleared that up.

Mine is doing the same. Dealer has the part in stock and it's scheduled for service on Thursday. Can I do this myself? What's involved?

it was less then $70 according to the invoice.

at this price it is worth having the dealer do it for you when you figure $20 for the part and your time and aggravation.

Would this also show up as a rough Idle?

My A/C is blowing warm air.... Ford says all high and low pressures are good.

If the blend door activator was bad.. would it suck the A/C past the heater core instead of the evaporator?

Any help appreciated..

I doubt it will cause a rough idle.

If the door goes bad it can let the warm go over the heating core. from what I understand about it it opens and closes to let more warm or colder air in as needed.

Liber8tor, you are exactly right. If the blend door is bad and stuck in the heat mode it will pull air across the heater core instead of the evaporator, hence no cool air. Need to check it out. 2nd part of question, would it have a rough idle? Not necessarily, am let to believe from other posts, the actuator can be functional but the blend door is broken internally and not connected to it. Vacuum system could be good to go.
