Default Truck getting hotter

OK so my mechanic took the truck for a few hours on Sunday (good buddy) He drove it like he stole it and guess what he said its not only hot its way too hot. My exhaust melted my spare tire with 3" of clearance. Good excuse for a tire carrier mod i guess lol.

So now im freaked. I have a major road trip planned and cant risk the truck. The dealership said today that they found "no out of normal conditions" and charged me for the inspection. I paid it but i dont think they are correct.

They already changed the clutch fan (the original apparently was bad)

Now they claim the bull bar and grill with lights are causing all this and recommended i take them all off. 2 seperate master ford mechanics both disagreed but the 20 something year old service manager shooed the master mechanics back to thier caves.....both in their 50's (one is my buddy's Dad)

Funny since they were added after all this started! I told them that and showed them a receipt of purchase for the grill and bull bar. He didnt know what to say after that.

Man i dont care if its the lift tires, programmer, exhaust whatever i just want a solution not blame..... Electric fans is this a good option?

I dont want to wait till Thursday until my buddy has shop time available to keep trying things so if anyone has any logical suggestions i would be most grateful.

This is gonna sound bad...but i would take off the bull bar, hook that mother to a tree and rip that trans out, running that hot, it's gonna give out soon running that hot.

what does the engine temps run at? electric fans won't help you much. if your exhaust is that hot, i would chase every tranny line, something may be obvious. is there a heat shield missing?

It's not the bull bar, my buddy has them on his truck and has zero issues.

OK, so the engine is hot because the tranny is hot because the engine is hot, etc. Bear with me for a minute guys. Could it be that the truck is running lean? I have drag raced for years and a lean condition will cause the same thing described here, loss of power, hot temperatures in the engine and because the tranny lines and cooler lines are plumbed into the finns of the radiator, then they all get to share in the heat exchange. Let us know if it still hot when you remove the program.

yea i would put it to stock and see..worth a shot, i wouldn't bother with the exhaust, but take out the tuner and cold air. i can't see that doing it though, but god only knows..

running lean would help the eng. problem only.but with the exhuast as hot as it is that a tell tell of a very lean running eng. i build race cars and c that all the time. i have a 07 fx4 5.4. edge chip ect. no lift. and when im towing my 29' trailer my ect. is 205-210. tranny 155-180. and coolant is 195. according to the edge read out... is the 08 5.4 any different than the 07??? in know the tranny is.. and there has been long list of problems with the new tranny. what power program r u running. the 3rd setting will make it run hot cause it leans it way out to squeeze all the ponys out that it can, and it toys with the tranny shift and positions.

Default Minor Update 1

Running the truck with the CAI on but the programmer out (truck returned to stock Evo in for monitor only).

No noteworthy change. 2 degrees engine 2 tranny. Still running 216-220 at the cylinder head.
So i had the idea to block the rad and aux tranny cooler (cardboard and ductape) and give her a short run up a 4km hill. Truck reached same temps but i still dont hear my fan comming on. Removed cardboard and the truck was coasted down the hill and the temp only dropped 4 degrees WTF? I would of thought way more than that.....

My buddy tested the fan at his shop last friday and i heard it there but it never seems to come on like i figure it should. the dealership says the thermostat is only just fully open at 210-220 and the fan should only start to come on at 215-220 THAT CANT BE RIGHT?

I will post a CAI removeal and stock program run tomorrow. Im not changing the exhaust back to stock.... thats just silly.

The spark advance is all over tha map too. My mech said tis is the loss of ower once she heats up. The computer retards (SP? Politically Corect? ) the timing to "save the engine and tranny"

I found out the exhaust shop f*cked up and the spare tire was Not 3" away as they claimed it was only 1" away. They bought me a new tire and a free detail as compensation for "any inconvienence. I dont think the exhaust is as hot as me and the shop first thought. He is placing a pyrometer ? in to test tho just in case.

So stay tuned. More to follow.

Default CAI and under hood temps

Has anyone got any numbers of stock UNDER HOOD running temps ( actual temp of inlet air to motor) and ambient outside temp. Just a thought when i idle or sit at a light my underhood temp shoots to like 165-175 and the ambient is like 89-91. When i drive normal city highway it usually only differs by like 5 degrees. Could all this be HOT AIR lol... doea inlet air make that much of a difference on a cooling system?

This could really explain the huge power differences from just starting up in the morning to when she reaches melting point i mean "normal opperating temps"

i never have...my trans is almost the same temp regardless of what season it is, something is wrong somewhere, just need to find it, easier said than done though...

did you ever try unhooking your battery and leaving it off all night and letting the computer relearn your truck with the mods? it's a long shot....
