My bed came with bed lining in it already and i thought about just getting them to spray the top of the tail gate but it would look funny because it is not smooth where the guard came off and there are holes where the cheap a## plastic rivits went in.

the line-x shop should be able to do something with the small holes. maybe fill them with something and make it smooth then shoot over top of it. the holes should only need to hold up long enough for the spray to harden and cure.
for the stick on rails, some of the tape is extremely strong and if you are not sure about the tape you can use so some of the newer glues on the market that will not let go.

Not a bad design so much as a cost saver. Mine broke off while unloading a washer and dryer. I had to buy it at the dealer since nobody online carries it (that I found). At first I was kinda pissed but then I realized that it is much better for this $65 plastic peice to take the damage than my $1000+ tailgate. Everything has a reason, we may not realize what that reason is until someone else points it out.
Thats funny cause i actually think mine was damaged in the first place from unloading a fridge when i moved.

i, like eski, also was loading a snowmobile into the bed of my 2004 f-150 and the plastic moulding got halfway ripped of by the spinning track. i managed to get it back secure by standign on the top of my tailgate and stomping on the plastic to snap it back into place (i know its not a good idea but it worked) and its been fine ever since. maybe a smarter way would be a short 2x4 peice of wood and a rubber maul to pound it back on. but i just used force to snap it back on and its been good. so if anyone else has that problem try this method.

Just ordered on from my Ford Dealership for $50 to put on this weekend. I also want to say that the people at Bankston Ford in Burleson, TX (formerly County Line Ford) are great people with the best costumer service. Wish i could say that about the dealership closest to me.

They've been popping off since 1997. Although I have to say I've never seen one come off that hasn't taken a little damage. So I suppose they do absorb a lot and save you some damage that's so easy to get on the top of your tailgate.

Good (you proved my point about dealerships from a different thread)...Bummer about the 50 bucks though...I used 5 self tapping screws when mine started coming off to lock it in there. Never had another problem...That included loading/unloading my dirt bike countless times, hauling crap to the dump, and just everyday use...May consider it. Took 1 min with power tools

I have a 2006 XLT Supercrew and the plastic guard that goes along the top of the tail gate has come off. I noticed about a year ago that it was getting loose and wabbly, but while flying down the freeway the other day, it disappeared somewhere between Fort Worth and my house on I35. I didnt notice that it was gone until i got home. I know i load and unload many things from the bed of my truck that probably bumped into this guard every now and then. There are two other co-workers where i work that have F150's and i looked at theirs and their tail gate guards are on the verge of comming off also. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know the proper name for this piece so i can shop for one online?
I need your plate number dude....my insurance company will be in contact with you
