I don't know what your interior looks like exactly or what you're willing to drill into, but here is what I've decided to do in my 2011, seems like some of this could be modified for all types of interiors though.

I purchased this tablet mount that is intended for a headrest:

Amazon.com: Tablet Mount, iKross Universal Compact Car Backseat Headrest / Pole / Tripod Mount Holder For 7 to 10.2 inch Tablet - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories Amazon.com: Tablet Mount, iKross Universal Compact Car Backseat Headrest / Pole / Tripod Mount Holder For 7 to 10.2 inch Tablet - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

I'm then going to make a block to put into the cubby on the 2009-2014 like this:

Photo is from another F150 Forum member.

I'm then going to use a mix of black pipe to attach to the cubby block. Like what you buy from Home Depot; flange, nipple, cap and make the headrest mount it's own stripper pole to cling to.

Here is my idea. I have a magnetic window mount tablet holder. I removed the sticky suction from the bottom of the mount to where its just the flexible rod and magnetic part. Under the center console there are some useable places to fasten a a custom made plate which will be attached to the magnetic mount. FYI Im not real versed in Photoshop.

Here is mine:

Scrap wood wrapped in scrap carbon vinyl with a few 3/8" pieces of black steel pipe.

IKross tablet mount $13.

I need to do a few tweaks; like send back the Otterbox case because it was made for a different version of the tablet, but mostly I need to wrap a piece of painters tape around the metal bar because the IKross mount doesn't have any sort of grippers. Hopefully the painters tape will help provide some grip.

What's nice is that it can be installed at an angle so I still have access to my 12v charger port right above.

Kind of industrial looking. Not to bad. Nice build. But what if you need to hit the eject cd button or any others hidden behind it?

I'll take some more photos and test those things out; I've just put it in. It adjusts in a number of directions, including up so I'll see if it hinders anything.

The pipe sticking out is 3/8 x 2" and here is what it's like getting the buttons and CD:

CD comes out easily and goes back in easily. The tuner ****, clock and phone button would be the more difficult ones to reach, but I don't use any of those while driving.

Being prepared I bought other various pipe pieces and here it is using the 3/8 x 3" pipe:

The extra inch gives adequate clearance for everything.

Final thoughts:

3/8 x 3" was the way to go. The IKross mount didn't cling any better to the painters tape, so I just went ahead and used some 5 minute epoxy; worked like a charm. The tablet quickly released from the IKross base plate mount so I don't have to leave the tablet in the truck 24/7. All in all, happy with the low profile mount and it was less than $20. In the future I may make a cover for the cubby I used to mount switches into, but I think I could still rig this same concept up using a cover plate.
