Default Switch to royal purple full sunthetic at 167,000 miles?!?!

Been debating the thought. Wanna give the old girl something different for a change. Don't use/loose oil. It is a 2005 with a mild cam phaser tick from time to time. Any thoughts? I will still be using the motorcraft filter as usual.

Mobil1 full synthetic or valvoline, I use mobil1. It's a very popular oil in NASCAR, who better to get an opinion from than ppl who drive cars all day and put the engines in extreme conditions.

Default Mobil 1 Here

No ticks in my 2005 but it only has $45K Miles.
5-20 Mobil 1 with their Filter, it has some kind of synthetic media, not paper.
I am sure to look for 5-20W, although 10-? is easier to find on sale.
Usually get a sale with 5Qts and the filter, then add a few qts.
My friend has over 204K on a 2002 Chevy Truck with Mobil 1, I guess
I am sold?
Costs about $40 for an oil change every 6000.

If your at 167 k and no oil usage, don't change now, stay with what you have been using.

stick to what you're/the truck is good at.... I don't see any problem with staying with what is working. The tick is just an issue with these engines. Changing oil isn't going to change it. Maybe if you started early but I doubt it.

RP is a decent oil, but ho hum of an add pack for the price. Many have success with starting to clean some of the varnish that contributes to the tick with Penz Ultra in 5w30. It's at the low end of the viscosity for a w30 so it doesn't give up to much to a w20 and still gives enough to quiet the ticking.

If your engine has been maintained up to this point I don't see a problem. RP 5w-30 quieted my engine down quite a bit.

It seems to be quieter as of now. Hopefully the total purple will clean the motor out some too.

I wouldn't use RP. Overrated IMO. Use mobil1 or penzoil ultra. Prob the best for the buck. Use wix or fomoco filter.
