That guy knows his stuff. I met him at a friend of mines house. Her dad is an oil analyst as well.

But if you do switch,go with something like schaeffer synthetic. Or even royal purple.

The suggestion from the guys on that website reccommended Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 or Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20.

ZachFX4,what do u expect to gain from running a synthetic? The f150 is far from a performance vehicle. Except like the raptor and roush trucks.
Your cost will go up. But for what? There are no benefits that justify the cost of it.
And since most people don't keep vehicles forever,it seems like just pissing money away.

I was curious about this question as well. I had a buddy who put synthetic in my truck at 50,000 miles. Now it's almost time for another oil change, but I don't know if I have to put synthetic in again or if I could get away with using regular oil. Perhaps a synthetic blend?

I just don't really feel like paying for the more expensive oil if I don't have to at this time, but if I do, then I do.

On another note to the OP, I have recently switched from semi-synth to full MC synthetic. I have had no issues switching oils. I have researched oil brands and the MC brand is one of the better ones out there.

Which actually makes it a good test since diesel compression is way higher than gas (correct me if I'm wrong). Higher compression means more opportunity for synthetics weakness (too thin to be held back by some sealing methods) to come up and yet it worked out better.

OTOH diesel tolerances are likely better than the average tolerances for a gas engine.

You are turning the thread into a debate.

Answer the guys question and if you don't want to or can't move on. That goes to anyone else who feels the need to say how F'in right or wrong they are.

He specifically asked

"My question is, how do the other members feel about switching from conventional oil to synthetic oil"

So everyone is posting how they feel. I see your post is off topic, would you care to add something? This sort of opinion thing sparks debate by its nature and through this people can weigh opinions and maybe make an educated choice of their own. Heck, motard1 and I are pretty much of opposite opinions but he made the excellent point that the payoff of using synthetics happens after 100k miles on the automobile (well he didn't come out and say it but that's what I got from it), which is after many of us would trade. It's valuable and a valid point for decision making.

Thank you. I was about to respond and refreshed instead.
But again to the OP,I am not antisynthetic. I run full synthetics in my boat. But its a high performance mercury that runs at 6200 rpm for extended intervals. Synthetics definetely have their place,I just don't feel its in a daily driven vehicle. Unless it sees extreme use.

Yeah, I can see your point, especially considering your location in the country. Being from NH, and the fact that more than half my miles go on in the winter, I'm considering the daily effect of cold starts over the life of the truck and really considering going synthetic since it responds well to lower temps. It won't make a huge difference, but I kept my last truck until 130k and I might keep this one even longer.

i too have seen the proof of synthetics in my motorcycle. really doesnt work that well with conventional oil. i have seen it in numerous motor builds i have done with my mustangs. i tore a motor apart with almost a hundred thousand miles of *** whoopin abuse and it looked nearly brand new inside and never burned a drop of oil. i tow with my truck, so i feel that eventhough it is not a high performance vehicle, it is still under some extreme conditions, which in my mind warrants synthetics. just my two cents.

Nice debate going on here,or non debate motard, lol

Now this is just my experience in my truck. When i first got my truck,i ran regular oil, motorcraft,ya know keeping to the manual.I did notice somewhat hard shifts, not harsh, but noticeable. The guy who i take my truck do if i cant figure something out,or if i cant do the work myself mentioned that i might, now hence, might want to give fully synthetic a try as he has heard good stuff about. So did,i switched to fully synthetic castrol syntec and did notice smoother shifting in my truck and better acceleration.Have been running it ever since and getting ready to at my next oil change to switch to royal purple(hey i get my cases free who works at farm&dart). Now I'm not telling him to make the switch,I'm just telling him what i noticed in my truck.
