Swap my 4.6 to a new 5.0
Hey, new on here, first post. About six months ago I bought my 2006 f150 with the 4.6 figuring that it was a small v8 and would still get decent milage and power, not the case. So im looking for anyone on here who has swapped out their nutless 4.6 to a 5.0 and if they can give me a few pointers on any conversion issues for this specific swap. Also if you feel like a 5.4 might be a better motor to swap let me know why, that would be great. Thanks!

Don't know of anyone who has done the swap. I will tell you that I've owned the 04-08 body style itch both engines, 5.4 and 4.6 V8. They feel the same to me in the power dept.

4.6 stroker kits, older 2V version of the 5.4 can be swapped in. I've never heard of anyone doing what your asking, due to the incompatibility of the PCMs, tranmissions, etc.
I drove my friends '05 5.4 (2WD SCAB-5 1/2' bed, 40K miles) last week on a 400 mile trip. It had a little more bottom end grunt from a stand-still, but felt like a pig otherwise in city and highway traffic. My '06 4.6 (4WD SCAB-6 1/2' bed, 77K miles) with a Gryphon tuner is much more responsive at all times. I get about one or two mpg better average in my truck than his did. *In fairness, his truck operated at 2 to 4 thousand feet on that trip and mine is at about 1K. Probably had some detrimental effect on his engine.
I had forgotten the slug-like throttle reponse these engines have without the tuners.

Yea I was looking at tuners and possibly an intake and exhaust. And I looked a top end kit too but the top end kit came with new heads and everything including injectors and head studs, if I remember correctly it was right around 3000$ dont remember who made it. Im sure it would be much cheaper at the time being to do the top end kit and bolt on mods. Maybe a few years down the road think about the new 302... Oh yeah maine just made exhaust mods of any kind illegal too, really sucks for any car intusiasts. How much power has anyone on here actually seen out of one of these 4.6s? Hp and torque wise?

I plan on doing something if and when my motor blows up but I doubt that will happen for another 200k miles! This 4.6 is at 94k miles and performs like brand new; no odd noises, idle issues, knocks, stutters, doesn't burn oil, just Ford tough!
