Default Superchips

I just got my 08 and love it great truck.. But like everyone else I am looking for more. I am not too big into throwing a ton of aftermarkets at a vehicle but have considered a chip/programmer. Everyone claims better mileage and HP/torque. I have been reading a lot of posts about custom tunes but what about the stock Superchips? They claim 27H and 30 lb tourque at 87 octaine.. ( I would not plan to run higher unless I switched to the 89 Ethonol belnd). They also claim better fuel efficiency - how much better?

I will more than likely leave everything else stock.. maybe a K&N or some other high flow filter but not a full intake. Is it worth the custom tunes? or if the truck is stock - go with the stock tunes.

Validated data would be great cause a lot of chip makers just say "increased power and fuel efficiency" Leaving everything else the same what is the increase?

I have the superchips installed on my 08 5.4 FX4 With the towing package. only mod is K&N Filter only.
What motor is in your truck?

The actual number to the wheels is around 26 HP 27 Torque but that is on the 91 performance. On 87 Performance you get around 21 HP and 23 Torque.

There is also a downloadable Millage XS that supposedly give 10-15% gains....but there are mixed reviews about it between us superchips guys. I have not tried it.

I noticed your 1-2 gear pulls a lot harder from a full stop with the 91 installed. After that there is not much difference in the 87 and 91. About 1.5 second difference in 1/4 mile times.

I just took a trip with the 91 performance in and got 16.5 (tail gate was down). my truck only has 1000 miles on it though so its not fully broken in yet.

According to everyone I talk to, there is a nice gain of power and MPG's around 5000k

I do not know my MPG's with the 87 in because im having too much fun with the 91 performance. I am hot rodding it right now and its still looking like I will get atleast 16 with a mix of high way and city.

I would think with the 87 it will go up a bit especially if I quit hot rodding it lol. I cant get my tuner to update right now which is why I havnt tried Millage XS yet.

According to the techs, they dont reccommend the E85 ethanol and the tuner together at this time.

Default What about MPG?

I know - it is a truck but everyone says it increases - how much I know the power is nice but the fuel savings would pay for it.

I installed a billet plate(throttle body spacer) and modified the air intake(you can probably find a cold air intake system for your truck). My truck has more noticeable power and better fuel mileage 2-4 mpg(Canadian). I have a 99 F-150 4.6L. I looked into a superchip but found out that there was little to gain by having one.

ive got the superchips flashpaw tuner on my 4.2 v6. Ive got 33s on my truck so the tuner helped with the speedo correction, but the performace tune was nice as well, havent tried it on the 91 octane, but definitly notice a bigger pull on 87 than I would on stock.

The mileage xs has helped quite a bit to me anyway. I know I dont have as much pull but to me it seems to drive like stock with the tune.

When I had stock tires and Flowmaster dual exhaust and no tune I got 200-220 on a half a tank

With my 33s added, speedo corrected and the mileage xs tune installed I get 220-235 to a half a tank.

most of my driving is highway anyway havent done much city to see how it does and havent tested the mileage with the performance tune yet.

But I got it for 200 off craigslist, do I want another tune, yea possibly.....but for now im good and happy :-)

The stock tuners will help you some in all areas. The custom tunes enhance these areas even more. But all i have done is add a K&N, did the Gotts mod on the intake, and add true duals. My performance has increased a great deal. I bought a TRUCK so I am not expecting to beat a Corvette off the line or at top speed. I just wanted enough power to get out of the way if needed. My truck can do 100mph if needed and sqeal the tires on take off. But, i dont want any speeding tickets and tires are pricey. With that said, I am averaging 17.8 mpg in mixed driving. I guess i am getting old, because my NEED FOR SPEED days are behind me. I have had my share of muscle cars in my days. But if i could find a reasonably priced 68/69 Roadruner it would be sitting in my driveway.
