Pretty much the only mod you could make is the long tube headers and 2.5" true duals, and A/F gauge. Outside of that everything else would be installed and tuned with the blower.

Is whipple only recommending a 160 to protect from detonation? I always thought a lower then stock T stat was just a bandaid for insufficient cooling, or just another way to richen up the motor...

I also noticed that JDM kept the stock T stat in this whipple raptor build: http://www.raptorforumz.com/showthread.php?t=17855

If I did drop down to a lower temp thermostat, then I'd prob go no lower than 180.
That 160 is just to cold. The reason they go that low is to prevent detonation. However the engine makes more power when at normal operating temp. I'm not sure where you're located but I'm in North Carolina and run the 170F. It's great all year. The 160 made my heat barley warm in the winter lol. With the 170 I see cylinder head temps of 184-188 under normal driving and they rise to 192-196 after a 1/4 mile sprint. The 180 is also a good choice. You're gonna be pushing 9-9.5 psi so I would not recommend the factory t-stat.

For comparison sake I would love to know what you guys are seeing for cylinder head temps that aren't supercharged. Anybody?

I'll check mine right now!

Okay so made my 8-minute drive home. We have a nice cold front here in Texas currently and it was only 82°F outside. CHT stayed right around 198-200°F. I flogged it from a stoplight 0-60mph and was only able to get it up to 206°F and it quickly recovered to 198-200° range.

I think my edge also only reads in even degree increments for CHT so +/-1° on my readings.

My cylinder head temps range from 180 to 192 consistently.. In city traffic, high speed highway, and cruising situations..

I wouldn't say its bad. But it's definitely high enough where you may want to check the cooling system out, or maybe even see how lean your tune might be running..

I had a 180 in my Procharged Mustang, changed it to a 160 and saw no discernible difference. I lived in Florida at the time, so I thought the extra little bit may help. I also had a Saleen S281 that ran stupid hot because of the small inefficient Eaton. Put a 160 in that, and no difference. Also used that "Water Wetter" coolant additive, also, no difference. Just about any supercharger kit you purchase will recommend a 180 degree t-stat, that's always a safe bet

Are you guys running canned or custom tunes? Do you guys also have a CAI? You could try going back to stock to see if it drops..

I'm personally running custom php tunes with a CAI. I also did a 2 part coolant flush, fill/flush, fill 4 months ago.

I'm running canned edge tunes that I have tweaked a little and I have a Ram Air System. 93 octane performance tune with 2.00° spark advance.

Is their a bleeder screw on our radiator?
