Default Fact and opinions

Thanks for the info.

I guess i should of included my current mods but i figured i would end up deleting most performance mods and replace them with the supercharger. I have an option on a Roush kit for a great deal. $2500 Canadian. I would part out my existing performance mods to recoup a little more. I guess what im looking for is real world experience with before and afters. You tube is great for 2 min clips of hard pulls to like 100 mph (160 kph) but real world is not the track. I want to know if pulling a travel trailer in mountain passes is not application(s) i should consider for the swap. Dont get me wrong i would love the kick *** hard pulls and highway on ramp blow bys but in reality this belongs on a track not our roads. Im no grampa i just figure if someone is driving faster than me i move over and met em go by.

I pull a boat that weighs 5000 lbs. When I'm driving around town, I try to keep it out of the SC. If I don't, the tranny temp likes to climb. It never got above where it is supposed to run, but i'm paranoid like that. When I'm traveling on the hwy with it, I kick out the OD. IMO the final gears in tranny weren't designed to take 12k lbs of weight and 450 ft-lbs at the same time. Granted, it only hits those numbers on good hills, but still...I'm paranoid like that. I want the extra pull of the SC but I don't want to tear up my truck either. When you run it in 4th instead of OD, the truck has more power with out the SC and if it gets into the SC, it is only for a couple lbs..depending in the hill or mountain of course.

Just need to exercise a little good judgement when it comes to towing with the charger on there. But you won't regret the change that it makes. No comparison.

BTW...I have the same kit from Roush on my truck. The 2500.00 kit is more than enough for me. It took a few days after work to install with a buddy. It isn't hard at all. Take your time and follow the instructions. There are a few pics of the install in my albums.

I should have saved the grand I dropped on exhaust and intake and filter and all of that crap and just got the SC to begin with IMO.

Your internals are NOT forged, but they don't need to be. I run 12psi through my 4.6 liter 3v (mustang) and it has never even hiccuped. The compression ratio is different on the F150, so I wouldn't recommend over 8psi, but it will handle that with no issues. Whipple makes the best all around kit on the market IMHO.

I'm tired from reading info on the 5.4 motor. Every few years they change the damn thing. Between changing the material of the block, and heads and crank and connecting rods...it's hard to keep track honestly. From what I've read and can recall clearly, the 5.4 from '99 up has a forged crank. Evidently not each one though. Why they choose to put a forged crank in some of the motors and not all, I don't have a clue. The pistons between motors change also, along with the timing gears....bleh bleh bleh....

The consensus seems to be this, provided you aren't trying to run 500 hp at the crank, you should be fine. That kit is only going to run up to about 450 at the crank on a good cold day.

As I stated in earlier post, just don't dog it out all day every day and it should last. I hope so cause I'm running it also and I'll kick myself if I have to replace the motor on my paid for truck....that will sting a bit....

I'm fairly confident though that "Roush" wouldn't warranty the motor with the kit if it was going to destroy it. But what do I know???

Just out of curiosity, where did you find a Roush kit for $2500? I'd consider one for that price and I'm a die-hard Whipple guy.

This kit without the intercooler was 2500.00 back in November. I guess they quit selling that package.

"Once installed, the unit is protected by the industry’s leading warranty which covers the balance on Ford’s 3 year/36,000 mile factory drivetrain backing, or 1 year on ROUSH components for trucks already beyond this level."

So if you have a 3/36000 on your truck still, it will be covered otherwise it is 1 year only on ROUSH components only, not the engine.

I'm pretty sure the powertrain is warrantied longer and 3/36. I think that is the bumper to bumper warranty you are referring to..not the powertrain. I'm still very pleased with the install and recommend it to anyone.

Just Saying...

Ah, well it is still something to think about and make sure of before you go expecting a buy it to break it and get a new one warranty.
