I'll be watching this one closely. That step is high on my list. Was thinking about if the hardware could be fitted into my current tailgate in some way.
Keep us up to date on this. My knees and back are hating the climbs into the bed.

My knees and I both agree it would be better to get this step working too! lol. Anyone have any ideas where I can get the step + hardware? I have no problem being the scape coat and chopping my tailgate up first.

I've searched ebay, forums, can barely find a tailgate w/ a step, let alone the step and hardware. Guess I'll try a scrap yard this weekend. If anyone can get their hands on the step, hardware, let me know. I'll pay ya for the shipping plus your out of pocket to get the step in the first place, within reason of course. Thanks guys!

A boat swim platform ladder may be a decent alternative.

Thats a lot sleeker than all the alternative tailgate steps I have seen out there. My question about this one is this: Notice how the pre-drilled holes for mounting are located on the rail? Is it just me or does it look like this can only flip out one way, thus when we mount on our truck, the steps open upwards, rather than to the ground?

Still would like to graff a SD onto mine if anyone finds a step (just bumping this)

Looks like you're right. Could probably drill through the other side of the rail to mount, though.

OK Lenn, I'm checking my dictionary on this one. He-he. Nope, not in there.

I'm sure a crafty body-work expert could do something with this... but the price may not be justified. Definitely something for the aftermarket people to consider as far as a bolt-on product. I've seen a couple aftermarket products out there already, but they take way too much space from the cargo area. I'm thinking of just doing something with some of my extra Uni-Strut and some heavy duty hinges. Just waiting for a nice warm sunny day.

I dont think there is an underside. It looks like its an L shaped rail, not a C. Looking at the unfolded view. Then again I am squinting at it on my laptop.

My exact reasoning for wanting the factory step since its so well hidden. I might just go buy a new 09-10 tailgate w/ the step, and just graf my bed panels to match that lip that was added (tear off that huge new logo while i'm at it). But i'm still lookin for a SD step/hardware before I just give up and do this. Thanks guys for all the ideas/hits.

Just to keep everyone informed... I can only find a tailgate step for the 09-10 F150 ($450) JUST THE STEP. I might as well find a tailgate w/ step for that price. Can anyone find this cheaper? Or even a SD step cheaper? Looking for the factory, not aftermarket. Thanks!

couldnt find a factory one online unless going to the junk yard, but found a universal one. doesnt really store away, just folds down.
