Default stupid spare tire lock

How do I get the stupid lock off the spare tire rod hole? The key doesnt turn in it despite soaking it with WD-40.

A few weeks ago I tried to get the spare off to help a friend that had a blowout without a spare tire but we couldnt get the lock off.

I even tried putting the rods thru the license plate light hole (I took out the light) and still couldnt get the tire to lower so I guess something is froze up there too but without being able to put the rods in the right hole I cant really tell.

I think its the original spare tire because its a Hankook and it doesnt appear to have ever been used. I know it hasnt been off in the 3 years Ive had the truck.

How do I get the damn lock off? I swear this is a moronic design and Id be screwed if I got a flat tire.

You use your ignition key for the lock.

Just keep trying! I had to soak mine with wd40 then I fiddled with the key for 15 mins and then it finally turned. My buddy soaked his then tapped it with a hammer and that loosened it up. I agree it's a shi**y design.

So the key won't turn in the cylinder? The reason I ask is mine would turn but still couldnt get it off. I found one of the tabs had spread from the back and wouldn't let the lock turn/ come out..... If nothing else drill the lock and get a new one.

I used a pair of plyers on the back of the lock to turn mine.

yeah, the key wont turn in it. I thought about drilling the lock out and just leaving it off. I dont really need a lock on it anyway. If I cant get it off I might just do that.

What key lock are you guys talking about? My attempt at my spare (original Hankook as well) was unsuccessful. I put the jack rod into the bumper hole to turn it down?? Didn't work and that tiny jack crumbled when I attempted to lift my truck with it, and the hook on the rid snapped so now I have nothing to get it down with unless I make a friend with an f150 also.
