Default Street legal drag trucks

I'd love to hear about any guys on here that have taken their stock trucks and given them the drag treatment. I have a 2007 2wd 5.4l that I bought stock with around 98k miles. So far I've put a DWV intake, flowmaster 40 exhaust, and edge cs programmer on. I'm in the process of building a limited slip rear diff in 4.11, and a turbo. The hope is to have a daily driver that can roach it on the strip. Let's hear your builds!

My kind of thread! I have an 07 XLT SCAB that turned 90,000 miles and ran it's best times 2 weeks ago today. 12.3 @ 110.3 Heres the details.

Power adder: Whipple Twin Screw Supercharger Ported 13psi, stock heat exchanger, Jabsco high volume intercooler pump. Metco overdrive crank pullley.

Exhaust: Dynatech Headers ceramic coated, dual exhaust 2.5" 304 SS Mandrel bent tubing, featuring Magnaflow Hi-Flow Cats, X-Pipe, Dual 5x9x18 Polished SS Mufflers, and Double wall 4.5 SS tips.

Fuel system: Fore Fuel Hat with twin 255lph fuel pumps, twin FPDM's, 60lb flow matched injectors.

Cooling: 170 degree thermostat, 2010 Motorcraft Electric fans, Painless fan controller.

Tuning: SCT X3 Programmer (Troyer Tuned)

Ignition: GMS coil spring upgrades with stock Motorcraft coils. Autolite HT0 plugs gapped at .035

Intake: 90MM Ford Motorsports Throttle Body, 4" intake, 95MM MAF with a BA5000 sensor, Barker Cold Air Intake.

Drivetrain: Built Tranny (BC AUTO), Circle D 11" triple disc stall converter, Driveshaft Specialist driveshaft, Yukon 4.11 gears, TRW Flex-plate, stock limited slip working just fine.

Chassis: Caltrec traction bars, EBC Brakes and Centric Bearings, QA1 Dual Adjustable Shocks, Belltech 3/5 drop, 22" Harley wheels on the street. M&H Racemaster drag radials 325/45/17 on V-Tec Raptor wheels for the strip.

Before I lowered it but it's the best drag strip pic I have

Beautiful truck! You've got more money into yours than I do mine at this point no doubt, but hopefully I'll have mine to your level sometime. How much do you have in your tranny?

If your going turbo, keep your stock 3.55 gears turbo's like a longer gear....... But get your suspension setup first...... Sounds like a fun build.

Would it be smarter to go super with 4.11's?

Thats true. But I've also had mine for 6 years and 4 months.
I paid $3000 for the trans and converter shipped. Now I know someone who can do it and save me a lot of money should I ever need it again. Not likely though. This one is built tough.

It's really up to you and how much you want to spend and what skills you have. And what Fang said regarding the gearing and a turbo is true, however you have to consider the tire size you plan to run and the fact that the transmission gears in our trucks are already pretty long. Example: our 1st gear ratio (2.84.1) is close to the new trucks 2nd gear (2.34:1). Second gear is 1.55:1 in ours verses 3rd ear in the new ones at 1.52:1. Thats one of the reasons the new trucks are so much quicker. Not to mention the trans doesn't need as much power to turn it.

But back to the turbo or sc. Again thats entirely up to you. The truck will be fast with either and both will have limitations. If you can do your own fab work you can save some money going with a turbo. However if you keep your eyes open Whipples pop up used every once in a while for around $3,000.

If, your going to go turbo, i'd look into a trans brake for the trans..... It will spool up the turbo and cut down your 60ft time a lot because you won't be waiting for the turbo to spool.... But the low end tq grunt of the whipple will do the same just by stabbing the throttle...... Both setups will be a lot of fun and fast.... As far as your rear axle goes, you will need a strong dif LS or locker, I'd talk to blown for about rear suspension mods to plant the power.... And ofcorse the right tire does a lot too.

Suspension is something I need to start working on sooner rather than later, but it's something I know very little about (as far as working on them). I've got some nicer tires picked out, but they can wait until at least after the rear diff. And Fang, the rear diff I'm building is Detroit, so it's gears instead of springs which I like better. I'm building it in 4.11 I think, that'll be more the level I'm gonna want. I'm still gonna be driving this everyday after all.

And Blown, the cost and skill level is the reasoning behind my choosing turbo over super. Maybe after a while I'll change it up, but I've never had either on my own vehicle and turbo seemed more fitting to my needs/capabilities. Where are you located? I'm in Ohio, and there's really only one good performance guy in my area.
